Surprise Bill Model Notice

- The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (CAA) created the “No Surprises Act” or NSA which is intended to protect participants, beneficiaries, and enrollees in group health plans (and group and individual health insurance coverage) from “surprise” balance billing when they receive specified emergency care (generally from out-of-network providers or facilities).

 - In 2020, in response to Executive Order 13877, which directed the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Treasury (the Departments) to ensure access to price and quality information prior to the delivery of care, the Departments issued the Transparency in Coverage (TiC) Final Rules.  The intent of the final transparency regulations is to provide a consumer with access to information on the cost of health care services before that consumer receives health care services, rather than after care is received.
